New Arrival - Coastal Blackbutt Logs

Here's a sneak peak at a new shipment of massive Blackbutt (Eucalyptus pilularis) logs. Blackbutt grows up and down the east coast and is a pale to brown heavy hardwood. It gets its name from the black discoloration on the lower half of the tree after a bush fire.

Shown here still on the back of Mal's truck ready to be unloaded and milled.

Australian Wood Review's 2010 Studio Furniture Awards (sponsored by Bungendore Woodworks) featured a number of award winning pieces made from blackbutt, including this piece by Neil Erasmus. Personally, I've (Daniel) have used blackbutt supplied by Boutique Timbers on two pieces a Shaker Trestle Table and of course the Blackbutt Roubo Workbench.

April Red Cedar Stacks

Some nice flitches and wide Red Cedar inch boards.
Take a look at yesterday's work on the mill, some beautiful wide Mackay Cedar slabs.
